On Friday April 24, we were fortunate enough to welcome my mom, dad and sister to Columbus for a visit. The main attraction was of course their wonderful grandsons and nephews, but also the Philadelphia Union taking on the Columbus Crew Saturday night. We grilled out Friday night at our place and reconvened early Saturday morning and took everyone to our favorite museum, Cosi. We changed up our normal Cosi routine of heading the to child play area, and went right for the exhibits and Lincoln did not disappoint. He showed off his obsession with balls and played with mom, dad and Moe equally. (At times, it was almost like he was working the room at a political event!) It was wonderful to see him showing his true fun and inquisitive side (the side we know and see all the time) for my family.
Saturday night I took my fam to the Columbus Crew stadium for the big game. Unfortunately the weather had turned the day before, so instead of a sunny warm weekend, it was a cold and rainy one. It didn't deter us from enjoying the game, although my mom and I watched the second half from inside a lounge in the stadium.
On Sunday morning we ventured to our favorite destination here in Columbus, the Columbus Zoo. Much like Saturday at Cosi, Lincoln was very receptive to having a few new people to carry him. In fact, he very conveniently found a family member to pick him up right when Shelley and I were trying to get him back into the stroller. :-) But since there is nothing quite like a Lincoln snuggle, we let it slide.
At the same time, Declan was his smiley, non-stranger danger self. He seemed to be full of smiles all weekend, and loved being held by all. Declan and Moe really seemed to hit it off, most likely because he is like his dad and super chill. He let Moe push him all around Cosi and the Zoo and smiled every time she peeked in.
Moe flew out Sunday afternoon and our night was spent playing ball in the back yard with some yummy Chinese food. Mom and dad left early Monday morning for a long drive back to Philly.
It was such a wonderful weekend! It was great to see Lincoln being Lincoln, and really spending quality, affectionate, loving time with my family. He brought laughs to everyone's faces, and spread his hugs around almost as easily. We are so fortunate to have such loving grandparents and an aunt, and it is so nice that Columbus is drive-able. We look forward to future visits and for a road trip back east.
