23 Weeks!

Lincoln is now 23 weeks and ready to talk to the world!  He has been talking a lot more lately, and he is now experimenting with his VERY loud shrieking voice - not out of displeasure but out of joy.  We try to gently tell him "too loud" but he is so cute while he is doing it, it is hard not to laugh!

Likes:  Playing/staring at his hands and feet, going out to eat and staring at everyone (just like his Momma), and the green leaf in his giraffe's mouth on the play mat.  Lincoln also likes sitting up - well, he does better when he is propped up by the couch cushions or the pillows on the bed, but he is getting the hang of the tripod sit (his hands out in front of him, helping his balance).  He thinks it is funny when he falls over onto the bed, and so do we!

Dislikes:  Nose drops, nose sucking, doctor looking in his ears, eye drops for pink eye, and stuffy nose for sleeping.  Ugh.  Poor guy.

We weighed him at the doctor today, and he is a whopping 16.4 pounds!

Daycare Notes

Monday:  Baby Lincoln had a lovely morning.  He and Atticus played together with the Bright Start toys.  They both looked so adorable sharing the toy.  For a second,  Lincoln looked like a big boy standing next to Atticus.  They looked like they were about the same height!

Tuesday:  I (Norma) enjoy observing baby Lincoln's development and interacting with him.  I let him lie on his tummy and placed soft toys just ahead of him but within reach.  He lifted his head and began to complain.  Then I wiggled a toy right away and Lincoln was interested.  He reached out and caught the toy and after awhile he put his head down to rest his neck.  This gave him a view of a toy on his left.  He began to reach for that toy by lifting his head again.  This behavior is important for strengthening his neck/back muscles.  A baby's head is heavy and eventually to walk, the neck muscles must be strong.  Lincoln stayed there for a good seven minutes.  Then, he tried to fly away!  He waved his arms and kicked his legs like a little human airplane.  Wonderful!

Wednesday:  Baby Lincoln was very excited to be surrounded by all of us!  He moved his arms all about and he kicked his feet.  He's making a lot of eye contact with the children when they're talking to baby Lincoln.  Lincoln was just the happiest today!  He smiled and giggled countless times.  I really loved when I (Yesenia) sang Lincoln a song and he sang along with me.  Cute!

Thursday:  Lincoln is happy with his sleep schedule.  During his awake time he is really very alert and awake.  This makes for good exploration.  I (Norma) noticed when I seated him on a child's chair in front of me (so he could play with an activity center) that his back is straight and he holds his head up well.  We look forward to when he can sit up by himself as it will give him a new perspective (almost all children sit by themselves by eight months...some earlier).  

Friday:  For the first time, Baby Lincoln got a chance to dance with the older children in the playroom.  Yasmin held Lincoln in her arms and moved him to the beat of the music.  She tried giving Lincoln a small maraca to hold, but he couldn't quite wrap his fingers around it.  He was very content to be with the other children and watching them dance.
