Declan - 3 Months

Sweet little Declan is now 3-months-old and is as calm as they come.  He is easy-going and full of smiles and absolutely loves his family.  Declan fits right into our home and brings a sense of zen to our crazy household!

3 months and 3 months (Linc on the left, Declan on the right)

3-Month Observations:

Declan is a good sleeper (knock on wood).  He can easily put himself to sleep, stays asleep at night and consistently wakes once to eat and then goes right back to sleep.  He is in his crib in our room (long story short, his nursery is VERY cold), and I often forget he is there - he is so quiet.  He takes at least one nap in his crib although it tends to be short, one long nap on me in the afternoons when Linc sleeps (12:45-3:45ish), and cat naps in the car and on the run.

Declan likes to eat but then doesn't like to eat.  He is consistent with his eating times, but there are times that it looks like he is uncomfortable.  He will sometimes arch his back, turn his head completely away or around like an owl, or just fight his bottle.  He always finishes the bottle or ends up nursing for awhile (we are doing both), but it is not a peaceful experience.

Declan smiles a lot!  He was a pretty serious newborn, but he has really come out of his shell.  The YMCA daycare workers love his smile, and they all go over to get a smile out of him.  One older lady always tells me how happy he makes her and that makes me so very proud.

Brian works on tummy time with Declan at night, and Declan is a pro.  He is also really good at batting objects now.  He will stare down the hanging elephant, reach up, and will rarely miss.  Great eye-hand coordination and makes his Dada proud!

Declan loves to coo and interact with you.  He will look you right in the eye, coo, and then wait for your response.  This game can go on for quite a while.

Declan is also enjoying his new view of the room by sitting up on the couch.  He is pretty steady when supported and shows off his great neck strength.  Unfortunately, this kid can spy a screen from a mile away and will always watch if the tv is on.

Hip Hip Hooray - I am 3 months old!
I cannot believe it has only been three months since Declan arrived.  I say it every month, but the time has flown by and it feels like he has been here forever.  He fits perfectly in the crook of my arm, sleeping on my chest, and into our family.  We love you very much, Declan Dougherty!

Declan was crying when I was in the kitchen, but then he stopped.  I peeked into the living room.  Lincoln had placed the burp cloth on Declan's lap and took the bottle off of the table without any prompting and started feeding Declan.  He is going to make the best Daddy :)

Someday those little boys will realize how lucky they are to have parents like you.
