Weekend of Firsts and Fun!

Lincoln surprised us on Friday (7/11) by taking his first steps and has not stopped trying to walk since!  He will get about four or five steps in before he falls on his hands, but I think he could walk even further if he wasn't laughing so much the entire time.  He thinks it is so funny and then throws his head back which of course throws him off balance.  He will figure it out in no time - I am not sure if I am looking forward to this new independence or not!  One day I will have two boys running in two different directions!

Lincoln had his first haircut on Saturday.  The back of hair was just looking unkept, and he had hair growing long around his ears.  I could have trimmed it, but I was nervous with scissors that sharp to his precious little pink ears so I decided to leave it up to the professionals.  The session started out well because the place catered to children and had a nice little play area in the waiting room that Linc loved. Little did his know that all hell was about to break loose as we jerked him from his fun play house and put him in a seat by himself, put a cape on him, and then let a stranger handle his precious locks!  She actually did a really nice job, and Linc did eventually calm down once he realized there were cartoons playing in front of him on the tv screen.  They gave us his little locks of hair to put in his baby book, and we snapped a couple of pictures from the beginning to remember the morning by :)

Linc wants a pet so badly!  Not going to happen anytime soon :)
We also drove to my home county and picked some black raspberries at a family friend's farm.  They have a great little business, and the afternoon was the perfect picture of country fun with Linc playing with the black lab dog, Linc eating more berries than he picked, and Mom doing all the work of actually trying to get berries in our box :)  It was wonderful to see our friends there and for them to see Linc show off his charming smile.  After we picked berries we drove back through Plain City and stopped at Der Dutchman - an Amish restaurant that Momma worked at through college.

We rounded off the weekend by taking a walk down by the river in Columbus and playing on the swings and then getting ice cream and playing at the play place at the local ice cream shop (Graeters) with other children on Sunday.  Whew - what fun!

You are a great teacher and an even better mom. Also a big shout out to your understanding husband.

That understanding (and outstanding) husband deserves a lot of credit. Amazing, hands-on, patient, and super funny dad - we are a great team! xo
