Rice Cereal - Yummo!

Most babies start with rice cereal as their first food.  With enough liquid added, it is slurpy and an easier to swallow first food.  Babies, as a reflex, use their tongues to push spoons and food out so it can be a tricky process for babies to learn to eat instead of suck their food.  Babies also have tiny openings in their intestines so tiny food bits may escape into the blood stream.  This would force the body to create antibodies against these foods and this is why allergies are formed.  With this being said, rice cereal is a very low allergen food (almost no baby has an allergic reaction), it is easily swallowed since the consistency can mimic milk, and it is tasty (I actually disagree with this one because it smells and looks awful!).

Lincoln ate some of this yumminess when we returned home from our Thanksgiving trip.  We knew he was ready for a couple of weeks now but we wanted to wait closer to his 6 month birthday which is what the doctors recommend because those small openings in the intestines start to close then.  He had his first bites on November 30th although I am not sure how much food actually made it down his food pipe into his belly.  He played with the spoon a lot and dribbled most of it out of his mouth.  But, it was a good, funny, and super cute first try!

At times, I think Lincoln was more interested in trying to eat his bib than the food :)  Enjoy the pics!

Can't wait to have more tomorrow :)
