Chicago trip

Brian and I did something we so rarely do - took a last minute trip to Chicago without children. The last minute part is so not our personality and the "without kids" is definitely not our usual weekend. But, we did it and we had a lot of fun!

We arrived late Friday and stayed with my good friend, Pullins. We watched the end of the Cubs  game and went  to sleep.

Saturday was the best! We went to our favorite brunch place and ate way too much breakfast. Then we headed down to Wrigley to take in the crazy World Series atmopshere. While we were there, Pullins called and said she was able to get tickets and asked if we wanted to go.  Of course, we said yes!

We went to meet friends for the OSU game and then headed down to the field. It was electric  and worth wvery penny of those tickets.

I posted the below on my Facebook. Sums up the experience pretty well..

Last night an older gentleman (easily 90+) slowly walked to his seat with the help of his son. We had really good seats and it would have been easy for the woman next to him to be slightly annoyed with this gentleman - his presence forcing her to be cautious of her own movements and she was not able to easily enter and exit her row. But, this woman introduced herself and then throughout the entire game held his arm when he wanted to stand to cheer on his Cubs. His son holding one arm, a complete stranger holding the other. Baseball is a sport that does this - brings generations together. The love of the sport that this man felt mirrored the woman's; strangers supporting each other in the highs and lows; high-fives that speak louder than cheers. My father passed on the love of the sport to me - so many nights spent listening to the game on our way home from our local ballpark. I can't wait to do the same with my boys. I can only hope they bring us to a game in 60 years and, with the help of a kind soul, help us stand to cheer on the Cubs!
